Justice Gopal Singh was born on February 26, 1911 at Nawan Jhandawalan, District Mianwali, now in Pakistan. He completed his schooling at Government High School, Mianwali and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Punjab Agriculture College, Lyallpur. Later, he studied law at the Law College, Lahore. Upon completing his LL.B., he was admitted to the Bar and began practicing at the Lahore Courts, specializing in Company Law, Income Tax, and Criminal Law.
Prior to Partition, he also practiced before the Shimla Bench of the Lahore High Court. After Partition, he became a member of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association and appeared before both the High Court and the Supreme Court. On May 28, 1968, he was elevated to the Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and served until February 26, 1973, after which he resumed practice at the Supreme Court.
Justice Gopal Singh was a bachelor and had no heirs. During his lifetime, he established this Charitable Trust and generously donated all his properties to it. The Trust was officially registered on October 11, 1973.
"With a view to promote charitable objects such as health and medical facilities, education and training of boys and girls and adults for acquisition of knowledge and development of character so as to make them healthy and educated citizens, for amelioration and uplift of backward and poverty-stricken people of India, for international goodwill and understanding and for bettering the lot of women and children."
Justice Gopal Singh passed away on September 15, 1977, leaving behind a legacy of service and compassion that continues through the Trust.
